DUBAI, Feb 26 (NNN-KUNA) -- The Dubai Industrial City (DIC) has launched the first labourer city with an accommodation capacity of 12,500 beds.
The new city will accommodate worker supervisors and personnel of companies operating in the DIC project and in the Dubai Emirate in general, the DIC said in a statement here Sunday.
The new city consists of 14 residential buildings as the first phase of a project targeting the initiation of six labourer cities.
The project, costing up to AED 1.6 billion, will be completed in the first quarter of 2008, the statement quoted DIC chief executive officer Rashed Al-Ansari as saying. (USD 1 = 3.67450 AED)
The project aims to meet the housing demand of workers in the DIC as it will provide them with high-quality integrated services, and world-class infrastructure and health facilities against fair prices, the CEO pointed out.
The project covers an area of 14 million sq ft and its accommodation capacity will reach 87,500 beds after its completion.
Launched on Nov 25, 2004, on an area of 560 million sq ft, Dubai Industrial City is a holding company that consolidates the various large-scale infrastructure and investment projects in Dubai.
It has six industrial areas for manufacturing foodstuff, beverage, metals, building material, petrochemicals, transport machinery, spare parts and equipment.
