CAIRO, Feb 26 (NNN-KUNA) -- Citing the Fourth Geneva Convention and the Hague Convention, Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa has voiced regret over "daily violations" of international humanitarian law and its regulations.
Launching the Arabic edition of international humanitarian law traditional regulations Sunday, Moussa condemned Israel's excavations under the foundations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, and its crimes against the Palestinian and Lebanese people.
He also lashed out at the crimes being committed against the Iraqi people that led to the killing of thousands of civilians, many of whom were children and women.
The Arabic edition will enhance respect for the international humanitarian law and deal with some problems in its practical implementation, such as civilian casualties and destruction of civilian properties and cultural and religious sites under the pretext of "collateral damage," Moussa said.
Choosing the Arabic language as the first translation of the traditional rules of the international humanitarian law after English indicates the importance attributed to the Arab region by the International Committee of the Red Cross, he said.
Meanwhile, Egyptian Minister of Justice Mamdouh Marei said his country worked, through the national committee of the international humanitarian law, to provide protection for the victims of armed conflicts and further the implementation of legal and judicial mechanism to combat war crimes.
