Congress MLAs send resignation letters to Sonia

Lucknow, Feb 26 (IANS) All 15 Congress legislators in Uttar Pradesh sent their resignation letters from the assembly to party president Sonia Gandhi Monday, ahead of Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav's trust vote.

The legislators have asked Gandhi to do what she wants with the resignation letters.

Uttar Pradesh, which faces assembly elections in seven phases from April 7, was thrown into turmoil after the Supreme Court this month disqualified 13 Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) defectors, whose support was crucial in the formation of the Mulayam government in August 2003.

The opposition has been demanding dismissal of his government since then. All 63 BSP legislators have resigned from the assembly. The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) 83 legislators are likely to boycott the proceedings as well.
