Kurukshetra (Haryana), March 19 (IANS) Over 800,000 people took the holy dip in the Brahmasarowar (Pond of Lord Brahma) Monday in this town of the Mahabarata fame on the occasion of the solar eclipse.
Scores of men, woman and children, who had been converging on the town since Sunday, could be seen queuing up for their chance to take the dip in the sarowar during the solar eclipse Monday morning.
The religious-minded Hindus consider taking the holy dip during an eclipse an important ritual.
The Haryana police and the district administration had made tight security arrangements for the occasion.
Among those who came early for a holy dip were Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, his ministerial colleagues, legislators and officials.
Prayers were offered at the Brahma temple as the solar eclipse started.
