Guwahati, March 24 (IANS) India's humiliating defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka in the World Cup has led to despondency across the northeast. Cricket fans were visibly angry.
"Some of the senior players should be shown the door along with (coach) Greg Chappel. It is a shame not to have progressed beyond the league stage," said Ramani Sharma, a young cricketer in Assam's main city Guwahati.
Unlike in other parts of the country where people vent their anger in public, people in Assam and elsewhere in the northeast remained calm.
"There is no point in expressing your anger in public. The players should be able to realize the amount of disappointment they have caused to cricket crazy Indians by their dismal performance," said Manab Das, a government official in Tripura's capital Agartala.
All roads were deserted Friday night with people remaining glued to their TV sets, only to be disappointed with the terrible Indian display.
"Dravid (Rahul) is not a good leader and should be removed immediately, and Chappel should be asked to quit," was the react of a furious Dhaniram Hazarika, a veteran cricketer.
