Algiers, March 27 (NNN-KUNA) Visiting Palestinian Hamas Political Leader Khaled Meshall hoped here Monday that the coming Arab summit in Riyadh on March 27-28 would be positive and in favour of the Palestinian issue.
He told a news conference on the sidelines of the 5th Conference of the World Jerusalem Foundation in the Algerian capital, Algiers, affirming that there was no Arab plan to revise the Arab peace initiative, which was adopted during the Arab summit in Beirut in 2002.
He wished the Arab summit would take favourable positions on the Palestinian issue following the Saudi-facilitated Makkah Agreement, which paved the way for a new Palestinian national unity government and stemmed the tide of infighting between Hamas and Fatah.
Meanwhile, Meshall urged the Arab leaders to break the international boycott against the Palestinians, to recognize the new Palestinian government and to deal with its ministers.
He argued that the Riyadh summit would be held amid several growing changes that could be an opportunity to build a fresh Arab-Islamic strategy, including Palestinian reconciliation.
Meshall reiterated his movement's abidance by the Makkah Agreement, noting that the forthcoming Arab summit would be an opportunity for Palestinian-Arab reconciliation aiming to defend Palestinian rights.
