Colombo, April 2 (DPA) An explosion in a civilian bus killed at least 13 people and injured more than 20 others in eastern Sri Lanka, a military spokesman said Monday.
Lt Colonel Upali Rajapaksa said the incident occurred at Kondawattuwan, 320 kilometres east of the capital around noon Monday.
"We are not sure of the nature of the explosion, though initial reports say it occurred inside the bus," he said.
Most of the victims were believed to be from the majority Sinhalese community. The explosion happened in the vicinity of a military camp, and authorities suspected Tamil rebels were responsible.
In a separate incident, suspected rebels shot dead six Sinhala civilians in the Eravur area, 280 km east of the capital.
