Meerut case: Prosecution completes examination of 2nd witness

New Delhi, Sept 12 (ZEENEWS.COM) The prosecution in the 1987 Meerut massacre trial on Monday completed its examination of the second eye-witness, who largely corroborated the allegation that 42 Muslims were killed by Provincial Armoured Constabulary (PAC) personnel during a curfew.

Additional Sessions Judge N P Kaushik, who is hearing the case, has also partly recorded the cross-examination of witness Mohammed Naeem, who is one of the six survivors of the massacre.

The court has posted the case on September 20 for further cross-examination of Naeem.

The prosecution claims that PAC took forty-two Muslims from Mohalla Hashimpura into custody, transported them via trucks to Upper Ganga Canal, shot them to death and dumped their bodies in the waters.

In his statement, Naeem had recounted to the court that he escaped by faking death after being shot at by PAC personnel.

The prosecution had on august eight closed the examination of the first eyewitness, Nasir.

Over 160 witnesses will be examined in the case.

The case was transferred from Ghaziabad to Delhi after a 2002 Supreme Court direction on the basis of complaints received from various quarters against the protracted proceedings.
