5 Indians among 6 killed in Qatar mishap
Dubai, Aug 24 (IANS) Five Indians were among six people killed in a freak accident in Qatar Wednesday afternoon.
The Indians were tending to a flat tyre of their van, which they had parked on the side of a road, when they were hit by a speeding Nissan sports utility vehicle (SUV), the Peninsula reported.
The driver of the Nissan has been identified as a Greek national called Nicholas who worked in the oil and gas sector.
All the six, including the Greek national, died on the spot. The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. local time on the Al Khar road near the University of Qatar in Doha.
The deceased have been identified as Mahesh Kumar Soma Bhai Patel, 43, hailing from Anand Nagar, Gujarat; Mohammed Ehtasamul Haq, 35, from Patna, Bihar; Satyasheelan Sivahari, 28, from Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu; Bilferly Kuriakose, 27, from Pulintanam, Kerala; and A.K. Mohammed Ali, 46, from Kozhikode, Kerala.
Another Indian, Naseem Ahmed, who was also traveling in the van, escaped with minor injuries as he was some distance away when the SUV ran over his colleagues.
According to the Peninsula report, all the Indian victims were skilled and semi-skilled workers working for a private company based in Doha.
