India to start sugar exports in October

Patna, Aug 30 (IANS) The central government resume export of sugar from October in view of increase in sugar production in the country.

"India will resume sugar exports after October this year," Minister of State for Agriculture, Food & Civil Supplies Akhilesh Singh told reporters here.

He said the country would export sugar to Pakistan, the European Union and other countries.

In July, the government had banned sugar exports till the end of the current financial year as part of measures to check rising prices of essential commodities.
