High court judge resigns to pursue law career
Chandigarh, Dec 26 (IANS) One of the youngest high court judges in India, Justice Paramjit Singh Patwalia, has resigned from the Punjab and Haryana High Court to pursue a career in law.
Patwalia submitted his resignation to the Chief Justice of India Y.K. Sabharwal last week. Copies were also sent to the Indian president, Law Minister H.R. Bhardwaj and Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Vijendra Jain.
He has cited personal reasons for quitting the bench. He is likely to practice in the Supreme Court after his resignation is accepted.
Patwalia had been elevated to the Punjab and Haryana High Court bench only in March this year. He is 43 years old and was one of the youngest high court judges in the country.
Patwalia, son of retired Supreme Court judge Kuldip Singh - known as the "Green judge" for his environment-related judgments in 1990s - had a roaring practice in the same high court before he was elevated to the bench.
