Charter of Muslim women's rights under consideration
Tehran, July 15, IRNA ,An international charter of Muslim women's rights and responsibilities has been sent to organizations and Islamic entities worldwide for their views, English-language Iran Daily reported on Saturday.
Making the remarks at the opening ceremony of the First International Conference on Women's Rights and Responsibilities in the Islamic System, secretary of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thoughts Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri added that the conference aims to prepare a legal document within the framework of the international charter of women's rights and responsibilities in the Islamic system.
Scholars from 25 countries will discuss the charter in the two-day conference that opened here on Saturday.
Also speaking at the confab, head of the Center for Women and Family Affairs, Zohreh Tayyebzadeh-Nouri, hailed the efforts made in the contemporary world for resolving women's problems.
Referring to the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, she highlighted the necessity of drawing up such a charter.
The First International Conference on Women's Rights and Responsibilities in the Islamic System has been organized by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought in cooperation with the Center for Women and Family Affairs and Women's Cultural and Social Council.
Scholars from Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Syria, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Egypt, Thailand, Kosovo and Palestine are participating in the conference.
Some 220 articles have been submitted to the secretariat of the conference, Iran Daily said.
