Madhya Pradesh MP's daughter ends life

Bhopal, July 31 (IANS) A Madhya Pradesh MP's daughter has allegedly committed suicide by hanging, but police say she has alleged in her suicide note that she was being harassed by a man whom she had reportedly married.

Deepika Singh (20), the daughter of Chandrabhan Singh Lodhi, Damoh MP, was found hanging in her room on Sunday. She is believed to have committed suicide on Saturday.

In her suicide note, Deepika, a student of B.Com first year, said that she was committing taking her life as she was being harassed and blackmailed by one Dheeraj Chandwani. However, Dheeraj's father, Suresh, has another story to tell.

He said that both had got married "though the marriage didn't have the approval of the two families".

According to police, in her note Deepika said that Dheeraj had threatened to kill her father if she did not pay Rs.1 million.

"The suicide note appears to be genuine," Town Inspector Suresh Mehra claimed.

"Deepika had come in contact with Dheeraj, a Class 10 dropout, about a year ago, and he promised to help her pass one of her examinations," he added.

Lodhi had lodged a missing report with the police on Sunday morning. Police recovered the body in the evening when they broke open the door of her room, which was bolted from inside.

"Though her body was found on Sunday, she is believed to have taken the extreme step some time on Saturday," police said.

Police have registered a case against Dheeraj, who is absconding, and have detained his father.
