North Korea "totally rejects" UN sanctions
United Nations, Oct 15 (ZEENEWS.COM) "Totally" rejecting the Security Council resolution imposing sanctions on his country, North Korean United Nations ambassador Pak Gil Yon on Sunday walked out of the chamber, protesting council members` "gangster-like" action.
Pongyang has conducted the nuclear test because of "hostile policies" followed by the United States, he told the 15-member Council and questioned as to why it ignored threat from Washington.
If the US increases pressure on North Korea, he said, Pyongyang will continue to take "physical countermeasures" considering that to be a declaration of war.
It is the first time the Security Council has imposed sanctions against North Korea since the country joined the United Nations in 1991.
Pak said his country was compelled to conduct the test following United States` threats to carry out nuclear pre-emptive strikes against it.
The Security Council, he said, has lost all impartially as it did not mention even a word about the US threats against his country.
While his country`s ultimate goal was the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula, it has been "compelled" to possess a nuclear deterrent as a self-defence measure, after the United States had threatened his country with nuclear weapons and designated it as a target for pre-emptive attack.
