Hearing into ball tampering row Sep 27-28
Dubai, Sep 7 (IANS) The much-delayed hearing into the alleged ball tampering by Pakistani players during a Test against England last month will be held Sep 27-28 in London.
While announcing the date for the hearing, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said here Thursday that it will be conducted by ICC chief match referee Ranjan Madugalle and it would be a private affair.
"The hearing will be a fair and independent process that will deal with the two cricket matters that arose out of the Oval Test match," said ICC president Percy Sonn.
"The concerned parties will have an opportunity to present their evidence and after listening to this evidence the adjudicator will make his decision."
England were awarded the fourth and final Test at The Oval, London, last month, as Pakistan delayed taking the field after a tea interval following umpire Darrell Hair's award of five penalty runs to the home side for alleged ball tampering.
Pakistani players have vehemently denied the charge.
It was the first Test to be awarded in 129 years of cricket history.
While the issue continues to rage, Pakistan, which lost the Test series 0-3, decided to play the one-day international series that is currently on.
Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq will be required to answer two charges relating to 'changing the condition of the ball' and 'bringing the game into disrepute', ICC said.
"The former is a Level 2 charge, for which the penalty is a fine of between 50 and 100 percent of a player's match fee and/or a one-Test or two-ODI ban," it said.
"The latter is a Level 3 charge for which the penalty is a ban of between two and four Test matches or four to eight ODI matches."
ICC said further details of the location of the hearing and participants will be announced in due course.
