Army called to help in flood-affected Pakistan

Islamabad, Sep 8 (DPA) At least seven people were killed after torrential rains flooded vast areas in southern Pakistan, news reports said.

Army troops were called in for relief and rescue work in Hyderabad (Sind), as parts of the city was under one metre of water, with marooned people crying for help, according to the ARYOne World television channel.

Reports said the rains breached some irrigation canals, worsening the situation in rural areas.
