Hindus, Muslims singing Vande Mataram daily for 60 years
Bhopal, Sep 9 (IANS) For the past 60 years, Hindus and Muslims working at a cattle breeding farm in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district have been singing the national song Vande Mataram every day - untouched by the controversy surrounding it.
Singing of the song Sep 7 to mark the end of the yearlong celebrations of its centenary sparked considerable political controversy as some Muslims opposed the singing, but the farm workers in Ratona village never had any problems reciting it.
"All the workers, including the labourers, both Hindus and Muslims, gather at the dairy premises at 7.30 in the morning and recite Vande Mataram. And there has never been any dispute on reciting the national song," said Ranjit Singh, the farm in-charge.
Added Singh: "It is being recited daily without fail since Oct 3, 1946, when the first manager of the farm Laxman Pandey started it. We all take it as a prayer and sing it with full enthusiasm."
