September 9 (NDTV.COM) Israel has lifted an air blockade of Lebanon imposed eight weeks ago, allowing a Lebanese airliner to land at Beirut's patched-up airport.

As war-battered Lebanon clears the debris and struggles to recover an Indian army contingent is there to help.

To help residents of Lebanon's south return to some semblance of a life, troops of the Indian army contingent of international forces are assisting them recover from the damage and reconstruction.

"We are still providing medical aid with the individual teams, which we have and also the humanitarian aid with the teams which we have. We are also providing water and other small facilities that we distribute in the communities," said Major S Pambey, Liaison Officer, Indian Army.

Traveling from village to village the Indian contingent, which has a team of veterinary doctors are also treating animals injured in the month-long war.

Villages in the south suffered widespread damage during July and August when hundreds of thousands of Lebanese were forced to flea their homes.
