Powerful quake rocks eastern Indonesia

Jakarta, Sep 9 (Xinhua) An earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale hit Indonesia's Nusa Tenggara province Saturday, but no casualty and potential of tsunami was reported, Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said here.

The quake struck at 12:13 local time (05:13 GMT) with the epicentre 130 km east of the province, said Indra Rahman, official in charge of the agency.

The centre of the quake was 580 km under seabed, with 7.35-south latitude, 120.17-west longitude, Rahman told Xinhua.

The quake was also felt in the Bali Island, he said.

Indonesia sits on the "Pacific Ring of Fire", where continental plates meet causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
