Paes in US Open men's doubles final

New York, Sep 9 (IANS) India's Leander Paes and his Czech partner Martin Damm stormed into the men's doubles final of the US Open Saturday.

The sixth-seed Indo-Czech duo defeated the fourth seeded pair of Australian Paul Hanley and Zimbabwean Kevin Ullyett 6-7 (1-7), 7-6 (9-7), 7-5 in the semi-finals.

It was a match of shifting fortunes with Paes and Damm losing the first set in the tie-breakers, but coming back strongly to pocket the next two sets.

Paes has bowed out of the mixed doubles in the first round. Paes and his third-seed Australian partner Samantha Stosur lost to the unseeded Belarussian pair of Max Mirnyi and Victoria Azarenka.
