Jaipur jewellery designers in New York fashion week
Jaipur, Sep 10 (IANS) Amrapali, a Jaipur-based jewellery design house that has made a mark internationally with its traditional Indian styles, is showcasing its design collection at the ongoing Olympus fashion week in New York.
The prestigious fashion week began Friday and Rajesh Ajmera and Rajiv Arora, the brains behind Amrapali, said they presented their designs the opening day itself.
"We have already showcased our collection and it was a grand success. It was the first day of the New York fashion week and we were out with our designs along with designer Ashish N. Soni," said Rajesh Ajmera.
Several designers and style gurus of the international fashion fraternity like Calvin Klein, Donna Karen and Carolina Herrera showcase their collections at the annual fashion week in New York. The ongoing week would be the spring 2007 fashion forecast.
Amrapali has already made its mark in the international arena through its jewellery designs in Hollywood flicks like "Troy" (2004) and "Valley of Flowers" (2006).
"Recently we also showcased our collection at the Wills Life Style India Fashion Week. We were the first accessory designers to be invited for the prestigious the fashion week. We presented four new collections there," said Rajiv Arora.
Amrapali has also been the official jewellery designers for the Femina Miss India contests since 1996, and has also been associated with international departmental stores like De Bijenkorf, Galeries Lafayette, Le bon Marche and Le Printemps.
Since 1978 Amrapali is known for steadily honing and promoting traditional Indian jewellery.
"As connoisseurs of ancient Indian history and culture, the Amrapali team regularly scours the remotest parts of India in search of unique specimens of the genre. The methods used by ancient craftsmen, designers and silversmiths are applied to all our products. By absorbing and combining the many rich traditions of India, the designs at Amrapali are authentic and unique," said Arora.
He added: "Each piece is fully handcrafted, be it purely traditional or contemporary, or a fusion of both. Our expert team is based in Jaipur, a region legendary for its gem cutting and polishing. They collaborate with their Western counterparts for ideas on contemporary slants and the results are always splendid."
