Cambridge to honour Manmohan Singh

London, Sep 10 (IANS) The University of Cambridge will confer an honorary doctorate on Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in October, university sources said.

Singh studied for an honours degree in Economics at Cambridge in 1957 and then completed a DPhil in Economics from Oxford University in 1962.

The honorary doctorate will be conferred on him by Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, who is also the chancellor of the varsity.

In July 2005, the Oxford University conferred an honorary degree of Doctor of Civil Law on Singh.

Singh, who will arrive in London in October, will have a series of engagements with business and political leaders during his three-day visit, including talks with British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
