Cameras for Delhi metro rail

New Delhi, Sep 10 (IANS) The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Sunday said it would install cameras in metro rail coaches to provide better security to the commuters.

DMRC officials said all metro coaches would be equipped with cameras with a monitor installed in the train operator's cab.

"This would help the train operators monitor passenger activities inside the trains," said an official statement.

Officials said that the step was taken to enhance the security in the metro rail. "This project was a longstanding demand by us for better security," said a DMRC official.

He added that everyday around 500,000 people commute by metro rail.
