Kiwis remain unbeaten, Australia crush Argentina

Moenchengladbach (Germany), Sep 10 (DPA) New Zealand maintained their winning streak in the men's hockey World Cup with a 1-0 win over Japan in their third pool A match.

Simon Child got the only goal for the Kiwis in the 43rd minute Saturday. The win put New Zealand on top of the point table with seven points.

Argentina's World Cup dreams were shattered after a 4-0 loss to Australia, in another pool A action. The loss left the South Americans on just one point after three matches.

Luke Doerner, Russell Ford, Michael McCann and Rob Hammond scored for the Olympic champions, who registered their first win of the tournament.

Earlier in the day, defending champions and hosts Germany came from two goals down to the Netherlands to salvage a 2-2 draw while a late goal from Ian Symons secured a 1-1 draw for South Africa to keep the country's slim semi-final hopes alive while ending India's tournament chances in pool B.

The result left Germany on four points, level with the Dutch and two points adrift of pool leaders South Korea, who now take on South Africa.
