Britain condemns Malegaon blasts

Mumbai, Sep 11 (IANS) Britain Monday condemned the Malegaon bomb blasts as a callous act of violence and expressed condolences for the families of the victims.

"I was deeply saddened to learn about the bombings, including one outside a mosque during Friday prayers which has killed at least 25 civilians," British Foreign Office Minister Ian McCartney said in a statement released here.

"That the attack happened outside a mosque, a religious building, a place of sanctuary for peace and prayer, makes this act of violence even more callous."

"We have passed on our sympathies to the government and people of India and I reiterate my sincere condolences to the families and friends of those killed and injured," McCartney said.

Around 30 people were killed and nearly 200 injured when bombs went off outside a mosque in the Maharashtra town of Malegaon Friday, sparking a killer stampede.
