Coimbatore blasts accused bail plea rejected
Chennai, Sep 13 (IANS) The Madras High Court Tuesday rejected the bail application of Abdul Nasser Madhani, a key conspirator in the Coimbatore serial blasts of 1998.
The court ruled that Madhani could not be released on medical or any other grounds.
The blasts in the Tamil Nadu city of Coimbatore killed 60 people Feb 14, 1998. One of the places targeted was the venue of an election rally that was to be addressed by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K. Advani.
Madhani's bail application had been dismissed on similar grounds March 2005.
"There is no material for change of circumstances warranting reconsideration of the previous orders on his earlier bail petition either on medical grounds or any other grounds," the court said.
Madhani, who is a diabetic and has had one leg amputated, claimed that because of the long years of imprisonment, his health had deteriorated and he needed special treatment at an Ayurvedic centre in Kerala.
The Kerala assembly had this year passed a resolution seeking Madhani's release on humanitarian ground.
