JKLF on hunger strike to protest rights violations

Srinagar, Sep 13 (IANS) Activists of the pro-independence Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Tuesday went on a daylong hunger strike to remind Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of his promise of "zero tolerance of rights violations".

"After the Indian prime minister's announcement of zero tolerance against human rights violations in Kashmir, the security forces here have embarked on blatant murder of the local people," said JKLF chief Yasin Malik.

"Today's one day hunger strike by our group is to attract Dr. Manmohan Singh's attention to his promise," Malik added.

The JKLF also plans to offer mass arrests by its activists in all major and minor towns of the valley in the next few days.
