AIFF taking FIFA help in allotting funds
New Delhi, Sep 13 (IANS) The All India Football Federation (AIFF), in association with the FIFA, would conduct an assessment of the infrastructure available for development of the game across the country.
On the basis of these assessments, the national body will select a few state associations and provide them with funds for the game's development.
"In our last general body meeting in December, Rs.4 million was sanctioned for funding the development of game in different states," AIFF general secretary Alberto Colaco told IANS Wednesday.
The process has already started and FIFA's assistant development officer Mohsen Gilani and AIFF representative Satyajit Sadanandan went to Karnataka, Punjab, Chandigarh, Sikkim and West Bengal last month to asses the infrastructure available.
Next month Kerala, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Goa are on the list, followed by the northeastern states.
By November, the AIFF is expected to select about eight states, allocate certain amount of money and chalk out a plan how to invest the fund.
"It is a small amount and we are taking our time to ensure the money is spent in the right way," Colaco said.
