FIFA rankings: India drop to 136th, Brazil still on top

New Delhi, Sep 13 (IANS) After a poor performance in the Asian Cup qualifiers, the Indian football team has dropped eight places and is now ranked 136th in latest FIFA rankings released Wednesday.

Brazil are still on top while England have equalled their best ever position, moving up one place to fourth.

World Cup finalists France jump two places to second with Argentina third while World Cup winners Italy are down three places to fifth after a poor start to their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign.

Even though Englishman Bob Houghton took over as India's coach, the team lost 0-3 to Saudi Arabia at home in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup group A qualifier and again lost 1-7 in their away match in Jeddah.

India is now levelled with Yemen to whom they lost 0-3 in a home match here in March.
