Haryana to construct Rs. 2.13 bn water canal for NCR

Chandigarh, Sep 14 (IANS) Haryana Wednesday announced it will construct a 64-km water canal to meet future water requirements of the national capital region (NCR) falling within the state.

The canal would be constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.13 billion.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, while chairing a meeting on water augmentation here, said water requirement of the NCR would increase manifold by 2021 as the industrial sector was expanding in the area.

The new canal will originate in Sonepat district and go up to Gurgaon district, officials here said.

Its construction will be completed in three years. It will have an initial capacity of 500 cusecs of water.
