Northeastern states want uniform power tariff
Agartala, Sep 14 (IANS) The North Eastern Regional Power Committee (NERPC) comprising eight northeastern states Thursday demanded a uniform national transmission tariff to end disparity in energy charges.
"The transmission tariff in the northeastern region was fixed at 35 paise per KW against 10 paise in the remaining states of the country," NERPC member secretary C.M. Bhogal said here.
The demand was made at the end of a two-day meet of the NERPC attended by power ministers and senior officials of the northeastern states.
"From the very beginning, the constituent states of the northeastern region were objecting to the rise in per unit Uniform Common Poll Transmission Tariff (UCPTT)," Manik Dey, Tripura power minister and chairman of the NERPC, told reporters.
The charges were fixed at 35 paise per KWH and shared by the central and state utilities in proportion to their assets utilised for evacuation of central sector power of the region.
"The NERPC in the meeting resolved to approach Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) for the continuation of existing sharing of UCPTT charge and for implementing the revision of sharing of UCPTT," Dey said.
The NERPC requested the power ministry for allocation of additional 100 MW of power to Meghalaya from stations of other regions to meet the state's acute power shortage.
The committee also urged the government to supply gas to the proposed 280 MW Monarchak thermal power project in west Tripura at a subsidised rate, release the balance amount of Rs.700 million for completion of the Dimapur thermal power project in Nagaland and provide subsidy to the price of furnace oil for Bairabi power station in Mizoram.
