Sanskrit to be compulsory in schools?

Bhopal, Sep 14 (IANS) Sanskrit may soon be a compulsorily subject in Madhya Pradesh schools.

A proposal has been made to make the study of Sanskrit mandatory from Class 1 to 12 in state-run schools, an official said.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Madhya Pradesh Sanskrit Board. The government is yet to approve the idea.

There is also a proposal to establish state-run Sanskrit schools up to the middle level. And there is a suggestion to expedite the recruitment of some 900 Sanskrit teachers in schools.
