Jammu, Sep 14 (IANS) An army major was shot dead by a soldier in the frontier district of Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir.

Naik Ravi Kumar of 38 Rashtriya Rifles shot dead Major Harsh Kumar with his service weapon in the Gambhir Muglian area of Rajouri Wednesday night, said Farooq Khan, Rajouri senior superintendent of police.

He said Naik Ravi Kumar had been taken into custody. Both police and the army had registered a case and were investigating the cause of the incident.

Though the provocation for the murder was being ascertained, such acts were earlier associated with the refusal of leave.
