Zhaveri Bazar blasts accused found guilty
Mumbai, Sep 14 (IANS) A special court Thursday found Abdul Shoaib Ghansar guilty of planting, transporting and loading explosives that killed 17 people in Mumbai's busy Zhaveri Bazar on March 12, 1993.
Ghansar, who was in a sombre mood during his presence in the court, was pronounced guilty on 13 counts by special Judge P.D. Kode at the special TADA court Thursday.
He was found guilty under the Special Arms Act, The Terrorists and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act, the Explosives Act and various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Judge Kode asked the defence to explain the charges to Ghansar and what the quantum of punishment could be for each offence.
The quantum of punishment would be pronounced Friday.
"I want to give him a chance to know exactly what are the charges and the punishment for each charge," the judge said.
Ghansar, the accused number nine among the 123 accused, had his hand in his prayer bag and was mumbling prayers throughout.
The court went in for a recess after which it will pronounce the punishment for the four Memon family members found guilty for the Mumbai serial blasts which claimed 257 lives and injured 700.
