India, Indonesia to cooperate in aquaculture development
New Delhi, Sep 21 (IANS) The cabinet Thursday approved a memorandum of understanding signed between India and Indonesia last year for cooperation in marine and fisheries.
Under the agreement the two countries propose to share information, data, training and expertise to develop aquaculture and prevent ecologically harmful activities, government spokesperson Deepak Sandhu said at a press briefing.
They also propose to share expertise in development of fish processing and handling technology to boost trade in marine produce.
"The MoU has come into force on the date of its signing. This MoU shall remain valid for a period of five years and be automatically renewed for another five years unless either party terminates it," an official statement said.
The Mou was signed on Nov 23.
The cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also gave its nod to an MoU signed between India and France for promotion of tourism.
Encouraging quality destinations and two-way flow of tourists is among the major features of the agreement signed on Feb 26 this year during the visit of the French president Jacques Chirac to India.
Cooperation in tourism marketing activities such as tourism promotion, tourist information and market research in the two countries are part of the MoU that will remain valid for five years and for two more years unless either party terminates it, said Sandhu.
