Pakistan reduces prices of essential items for Ramzan

Islamabad, Sep 21 (IANS) People in Pakistan will get essential commodities at reduced prices during the holy month of Ramzan, it was reported Wednesday.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz announced the "Ramzan Package" here saying essential items like ghee, edible oils, flour, rice, pulses, dates, milk, spices and others will be made available to the consumers at utility stores throughout the country at reduced prices from Friday.

The government will provide a subsidy of Rs.650 million for the purpose, Aziz was quoted as saying by Geo TV.

In addition to the government offer, the provinces have been asked to prepare their own packages for the holy month when Muslims fast.

Ramzan is likely to start Sep 24 subject to sighting of the new moon.
