Big turn out expected for Indian fest in Tokyo

Tokyo, Sep 22 (DPA) Japan will be going Indian at this weekend's cultural festival set to attract 70,000 visitors and next year when the 'Year of India' will be celebrated to strengthen Indo-Japan relations.

'Namaste India 2006' will promote both traditional and contemporary Indian cuisine and cultural assets, including the nation's proud yoga tradition, music and dance.

The 14th annual event, which opens Saturday, moved from a temple to a Tokyo park two years ago to accommodate the growing number of visitors, according to Masahiro Tsuji, event spokesperson.

"The number of participants has doubled since 2004," Tsuji said.

Tokyo has more than 10,000 Indian nationals.
