Karnataka MP new chairperson of Haj Committee

New Delhi, Sep 22 (IANS) Senior Congress Member of Parliament Iqbal Ahmad Saradgi was Thursday elected as chairperson of the newly reconstituted Haj Committee.

The 16-member Haj committee elected Hasan Ahmed of New Delhi and Ali Kutty Musliyar, principal of Jamia Nooriyya Arabic College in Malappuram as vice-chairpersons, a press release from the office of Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed here said.

The other MPs on the committee are Shafiqur Rahman Barq, a Samajwadi Party MP from Uttar Pradesh, Mukthar Abbas Naqvi, a Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Uttar Pradesh and Syeda Anwara Taimur, a Congress MP from Assam.

Saradgi, an MP from Gulbarg in Karnataka and Barq from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh were nominated by Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi was nominated by Rajya Sabha chairperson Bhairon Singh Sekhawat.

A.V. Abdul Raheem (Malappuram, Kerala), Hafiz Naushad Ahmad Azmi (Mau, Uttar Pradesh), Mehmooda Afzal (Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir), Moulvi Mohammed Moazzam Ahmad (Naib Imam Shahi Masjid, Fatehpuri, Delhi), Anzar Shah Masoodi Kashmiri (acting vice chancellor of Darul Uloom Waqf Deoband, Uttar Pradesh) and Maulana Sayyed Bilal (Rai Bareli, Uttar Pradesh) were nominated by the government.

Sanjay Singh, R.K. Singh, Kameswari Subramanian and D.S. Mishra - joint secretaries in ministry of the external affairs, civil aviation, finance and home respectively - were appointed as the ex-officio members, the release added.
