Australia beat West Indies, lift DLF Cup

Kuala Lumpur, Sep 24 (IANS) Australia lifted the DLF Cup by defeating the West Indies by 127 runs in the final match of the DLF Cup triangular series here Sunday.

Chasing a target of 241, the West Indies got off to a very poor start and could not recover from it and were bowled out for 113 in 34.2 overs in the day-night encounter at the Kinrara Academy Oval.

West Indies lost six wickets with just 56 runs on board. Ramnaresh Sarwan (36), Dwayne Smith (30) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (12) were the only batsmen to reach the double figures with extras contributing 19.

Chris Gayle, Wavell Hinds, Runako Morton and Ian Bradshaw were back in the pavilion without opening their account.

Captain Brian Lara also failed to rise to the occasion and was out for five runs.

For the Australians, Brett Lee was the successful bowler as he picked up four for only 24 runs and Nathan Bracken took three for 16 in seven overs.

Earlier, Australia opted to bat and scored 240 for six in 50 overs, helped by 52 each from Damien Martyn and Andrew Symonds. Mike Hussey made an unbeaten 30 and Simon Katich scored 25.

For the West Indies, Bradshaw and Sarwan picked up two wickets each.
