Belgian embassy employee murdered, driver surrenders

New Delhi, Sep 25 (IANS) Isabelle Dessoy, a Belgian national working for her country's embassy here, was murdered in her south Delhi flat. The suspect - her driver - surrendered to police Sunday.

The 47-year-old personal assistant at the embassy was stabbed 22 times in her kitchen Saturday night allegedly by Vijay Pal Chaudhary, her driver for the past two years, police said.

"Chaudhary had fled from the house but later surrendered. We are questioning him about the incident," said a senior police official.

He said the incident took place at Dessoy's ground floor residence in Vasant Vihar where she had been staying for the past three years.

"We have found both the driver and Isabelle had known each other for long and she had tremendous faith in him," said Ravindra Yadav, deputy commissioner of police.

Investigations revealed that Chaudhary had forcibly entered the residence and killed Dessoy. "Chaudhary had used a kitchen knife to stab the woman," he said.

Soon after being stabbed, the victim had managed to call her 14-year-old son and informed him of the attack. "We were informed by her son who rushed her to the Safdarjung Hospital where doctors declared her brought dead," Yadav said.

Police were informed about the incident at 10.45 p.m. Saturday.
