Barcelona-Valencia draw leaves three-way tie

Madrid, Sep 25 (DPA) The 1-1 draw between Barcelona and Valencia has left three teams tied at the top of the Spanish first division football tournament.

Barca and Valencia now have 10 points from four games, the same as Real Madrid.

Barca go top on goal difference over Real and Valencia. All three remain unbeaten. David Villa gave Valencia the lead in the Camp Nou in the 16th minute, turning in a clever centre from Miguel Sunday.

Villa came close to increasing Valencia's lead just before the interval when he hit the post. Barca took control in the second half and supersub Andres Iniesta volleyed in the equaliser in the 49th minute, after being set up by Samuel Etoo.

The hosts then laid siege to the Valencia goal but lacked a cool finish. Barca should have had a penalty in injury time, when Miguel brought down Etoo.

"A draw is not a bad result for us," said Iniesta. "But I think we should have converted one of our other chances towards the end."

Valencia coach Quique Sanchez Flores said that he was "fairly satisfied" with the draw.

Sunday's other big game saw Atletico Madrid come from behind to score a 2-1 win over previous leaders Sevilla with two late goals by Maxi Rodriguez.

Sevilla had taken an early lead through Renato. In the second half, though, they were crippled by the sending-off of defenders Javi Navarro and Julien Escude.

Maxi made it 1-1 in the 84th minute with one of his trademark long drives. Just four minutes later he pushed home the winner after Fernando Torres had pulled apart the makeshift Sevilla defence.

The win leaves Atletico and Sevilla in joint fourth place with nine points.

Deportivo Coruna drop down to sixth with their first defeat, 2-0 at Levante.

Recreativo Huelva move up to seventh with a 3-2 win at troubled Real Sociedad, who are now second from bottom.

Rock bottom are Racing Santander, who drew 2-2 in Tarragona.

Third from bottom are Athletic Bilbao, who battled out a 0-0 draw at Getafe.

Also Sunday, Villarreal came from behind to beat Zaragoza 3-2, Osasuna won 2-0 in Vigo and Mallorca defeated Espanyol 1-0.
