Croatia denies claims in Musharraf's autobiography
Zagreb, Sep 26 (DPA) Although Croatian secret police have denied Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf's allegation that terrorists planned to use hijacked Croatian aircraft, the national airliner has backed the claims, the Jutarnji List daily said Tuesday.
Musharraf said in his autobiography "In the Line of Fire", which hit the stands Monday, that Croatia and four other Eastern European countries were selected by Al Qaeda for hijacking a plane and attacks on London's Heathrow airport because of lax security at their airports.
"Croatian intelligence services never received information ...mentioned in Musharraf's book," the head of the Croatian secret police, Tomislav Kamarenko, told Jutarnji. "We are no less safe than Britain or any other country under the threat of terrorism."
But a Croatian Airlines spokesperson, Davor Janjusic, confirmed that the company was tipped off on the terrorists' plan.
"We were informed in contacts with the authorities. That is why appropriate security measures were adopted, which additionally enhanced the safety of Croatian Airlines aircraft," he told the newspaper.
Musharraf's book addresses US-Pakistani relations, as well as the war on terrorism and the assassination attempts on his life.
