Domestic cricket tournaments to be telecast live
New Delhi, Sep 26 (IANS) India's domestic cricket season will wear a jazzy look from 2006-07 starting Oct 1. Tournaments have been given catchy names and there will be 69 days of live coverage.
A soon to be launched channel called Neo Sports will be showing the domestic tournament live. It was announced by the Indian cricket board here Monday.
"The Indian cricket board is looking at these initiatives as steps towards encouraging interest in domestic cricket," said Lalit Modi, chairman of marketing sub-committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in a statement.
The N.K.P. Salve Challenger Trophy, which has been re-christened as the Challenger Series for the N.K.P. Salve Trophy would also be shown live in Britain by Sky Sports, on Super Sports in Africa and in Malaysia by Astro. Live telecast of the tournament will also be available on the net on www.willow.tv.
Besides the N.K.P. Salve Challenger Trophy, names of other tournaments have been changed as well. The Ranji Trophy - Elite Division will now be known as Super League for the Ranji Trophy and the Plate Division as the Plate League.
Premier Cup is the new name given to the Inter-State One Day Knockout Tournament while Deodhar Trophy will be known as Star Series.
