Five years jail for Monica Bedi in forgery case

Hyderabad, Sep 29 (IANS) A special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court Friday found former film actress Monica Bedi guilty in a fake passport case and sentenced her to five years imprisonment.

CBI counsel told reporters that the special court imposed a fine of Rs.5,000 on the girlfriend of underworld don Abu Salem. She will have to undergo one month's imprisonment in case of default.

The court also found three government employees guilty for helping her obtain the fake passport, but acquitted two others for lack of evidence.

Two police employees, sub-inspector Abdul Sattar and revenue inspector Mohammad Younis, as well as postman Gokar Sab were sentenced to three years imprisonment for helping Bedi obtain the fake passport.

The court found Bedi guilty under sections 419 and 420 of Indian Penal Code relating to cheating and conspiracy and under section 12 of Passport Act, the lawyer said.
