592 new flights to connect places within northeast

New Delhi, April 10 (IANS) The government is planning to introduce as many as 592 new flights linking various places within the northeastern region soon, according to Minister for Development of Northeastern Region (DoNER) Mani Shankar Aiyar.

"There are already 226 flights a week linking the northeast to the rest of the country. Now we are planning to introduce 592 intra-northeast flights that will link at least the various state capitals in the region," Aiyar said while speaking at the Third Northeast Business Summit here Tuesday.

He said air connectivity between the region and the rest of the country has been fine.

"But there have been problems of air connectivity within the northeast. We hope this problem will be largely done away with following the introduction of these new flights," he said.
