Min. of Minority Affairs announce funds for scholarships, grants
New Delhi, April 12 (IndianMuslims.info newsdesk): The Ministry of Minority Affairs is formulating a number of schemes during the current financial year (2007-08) for the benefit of minority communities. Out of an allocation of Rs.500 crore, a sum of Rs.310 crore has been provided for the proposed schemes, namely Pre-Matric scholarship, Post-Matric scholarship, Multi Sectoral Development Programme and Grant-in-Aid to State Channelising Agencies (MCAs) engaged in national Minorities Development Finance Corporation (NMDFC) programmes.
Under the Pre-Matric Scholarship programme for minorities 80,000 school going children up to class X will be benefited. The scheme is meant to provide quality education, reduce the financial burden of parents in supporting school education and enable students complete education up to secondary level. Rs.80 crore has been allocated for this purpose during 2007-08.
75,000 scholarships will be provided under Post-Matric Scholarship Programme for persuing Technical and Vocational Courses for classes XIth and XIIth and also for general courses at Undergraduate and Post-graduate levels. An outlay of Rs.100 crore has been made under the programme during the current financial year.
Under the Multi Sectoral Development Programme for Minorities in selected minority concentration districts, Rs.120 crore has been provided to address the development deficits in the identified districts.
Grant-in-Aid to the tune of Rs. 10 crore will be provided to State Channelising Agencies(SCAs) implementing the National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation(NDMFC) Programmes for strengthening their infrastructure, manpower and resources.
Further, a sum of Rs.190 crore has been provided for the ongoing schemes of Ministry like Grant-in-Aid to Maulana Azad Education Foundation (MAEF), Coaching and Allied schemes for economically weaker sections of the minorities, Research/Studies, Monitoring and Evaluation of development schemes and Merit cum Means Scholarship for professional and technical courses during the current year.
