10 policemen, 2 Taliban insurgents killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, April 16 (Xinhua) At least 10 policemen and two Taliban insurgents were killed in separate attacks in Afghanistan Monday, sources said.

A suicide bombing at around 8:00 a.m. (local time) in Kunduz city of northern Afghanistan killed nine policemen and injured 25, an official from the press office of the interior ministry said.

However, a local security official put the death roll of policemen to 10.

A gun battle between Afghan security forces and Taliban fighters in Ghazni province left one Afghan soldier and two insurgents dead, provincial police chief Ali Shah Ahmadzai said.

The police chief said that a soldier and two rebels were killed in a clash between Taliban rebels and security forces in Qarabagh Sunday evening. Three Afghan troops were also injured in the shootout.

Militancy and conflicts have claimed the lives of more than 800 people since January this year in Afghanistan.
