India's growing economy has great opportunity for Bhutan
Thimphu, April 16 (NNN-Bernama) Predicting India's domination of global economy within a few decades, Bhutan King Jigme Khesar Wangchuk has said his kingdom's geo-political location will be the biggest advantage in the context of opportunities for his country.
"Some say we are a country landlocked between two giant neighbours. We are aware of that disadvantage but in building a strong economy, our geo-political location is going to be our biggest advantage," he said at 11th biennial convocation at the Sherubtse College in Kanglung.
Within a few decades, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported Sunday quoting Wangchuk, as saying that India and China are expected to dominate the world's economy.
Calling India as a true source of optimism for his country, he said: "As our closest neighbour and friend, Bhutan's rapid socio-economic growth is assisted by India's steadfast support.
"Our young democratic system will always benefit from India's experience. As an economic power of the future, our economy will only benefit from cooperation with India," he said.
He urged the students to help in the kingdom's transition to democracy with general elections scheduled for next year.
