Kathmandu, April 22 (Xinhua) At least nine persons died and dozens others were injured in separate road accidents across the country over the weekend.

According to the Metropolitan Traffic Police Office, 16-year-old Nanda Kumari Khatri died while 10 others sustained injuries when a mini-truck skidded some 10 meters off the road along the Araniko Highway Saturday evening. The mini-truck, on its way to Kathmandu from Banepa, some 20 km east of the capital, slid off the road due to slippery conditions caused by light rain, stated the Traffic Office.

In a separate road accident, three passengers were killed and over 40 injured, some of them critically, when a bus met an accident in Rupandehi District, some 180 km southeast of Kathmandu,on the East-West Highway, reports said.

The passenger bus bound for Kathmandu plunged into the river after it crashed into the wall of a bridge Saturday morning.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Kumar K.C of Kapan,Kathmandu, and Mohan Lal Sapkota of Nelkuna, Surkhet while identities of others are yet to be confirmed. Police said that the condition of five of the injured passengers, who are undergoing treatment at the Lumbini Zonal Hospital, is critical.

Likewise, two persons were killed and two others injured when a truck skidded off the road and fell onto the bank of a river in Chitwan District, some 85 km southwest of Kathmandu, on Saturday.

Similarly, a person, Megh Nath Aryal, from the Pragatinagar Village Development Committee (VDC) in Nawalparasi District, some 160 km southwest of Kathmandu, was killed when his motorbike was hit by a mini-truck Saturday morning. He died on way to hospital, police said.

Meanwhile, two Indian nationals -- Najir Baitha, 18, and Juhi Raut, 8 -- died when the roof of a bus they were in touched a livewire in Jaleshower, the district headquarters of Mahottari, some 130 km south of Kathmandu, on Friday. Five others were also injured in the incident.

According to the police sources, the fatal accident occurred after the musical instruments of the marriage ceremony carried by deceased, the members of the marriage band, happened to touch the high voltage wire.
