eBay to auction Mandira's designer cricket saris
New Delhi, Feb 23 (IANS) Television anchor Mandira Bedi is all set to scorch the small screen during next month's cricket World Cup with saris specially designed by fashion house Satya Paul that will later be auctioned by online website eBay after the quadrennial event.
The five saris have cricket as their theme and will be part of Mandira's wardrobe during the 49-day sporting extravaganza in the West Indies.
The saris feature a medley of prints that include flags of the participating nations, signatures of players, a red cricket ball, newspaper mastheads and cricket figurines.
The collection has been titled 'Bowled On The Run-Way'. The money generated through the auction will be donated to the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (MFPA) association.
"For the first time I will be wearing saris that have been designed on the cricketing theme. I am also very happy to be part of a good cause," Mandira said while unveiling the collection at a press conference here Friday.
The MFPA is a non-government charitable organisation that looks after disabled artists who paint with their mouths or feet.
eBay also announced the launch of their Cricket Mania campaign to support the Indian team during their World Cup campaign. It will also donate Rs.5 to MFPA for every "Go India Go" wristband that is auctioned during the event.
"The eBay cricket mania initiative helps to build on the cricket fervour and additionally supports the noble cause of the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists association," eBay India country manager Rajan Mehra said.
eBay, which was formerly known as Bazee.com, also has a host of exciting gifts for all its buyers. Every buyer who completes one transaction with the site will get a "Go India Go" band while those who complete two transactions will get a special "100 Years of Cricket" VCD compiled by former England captain David Gower.
Buyers who complete four transactions will get a cricket ball autographed by Mandira and those who make six purchases will get a copy of batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar's autographed biography, The Making of a Cricketer.
